Rajkot
Traditional crafts are well-known in Rajkot (silver work, embroidery, and patola weaving). It is located around 45 miles (72 km) southeast of Jamnagar, close to the centre of the Kathiawar Peninsula.
Spread over an area of 137 acres, Rajkot Zoological Park is one of the modern & naturalistic developing zoos in India. Also known as Rajkot Prani Sangrahalaya, this zoo is maintained by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation. Initially, the zoo was set up in the year 1992 near Aji Dam. Since the old mini zoo at Aji Dam suffered from many drawbacks and did not match the standards set by the Central Zoo Authority, the zoo was relocated to its present location in 2010 and is renamed as Pradyuman Zoological Park.
Situated in a natural habitat touching Lake Lal Pari and Randarda Lake, Pradyuman Park houses various rare animals, birds and more than thirty five thousand trees. Lions of Gir, leopard, tigers are the prime attraction of the park. Besides, crocodiles, sambhar, chinkara, blackbucks, four horned antelopes, etc., are the other attractions of Pradyuman Park. One can also see many migrating birds at this place.
This park is known as one of the best picnic spots in Rajkot. The management has introduced several facilities and amenities for visitors like battery vehicles for aged and senior citizens, small food joints, sign boards, drinking water, lavatories and proper seating arrangements.
Rajkot is well connected by road to most of the major cities of Gujarat and other neighboring states.
Rajkot is a junction on the Western Railway Ahmedabad-Hapa broad gauge line.
