Kutch
Kutch is a vast salt marsh desert in India that is home to many significant sites that belong to the Indus Valley Civilization. Thousands of travelers come to India to visit Kutch and its vividness.
Situated in village called Moti Virani in Kutch, the Centre for Desert and Ocean is the brainchild of a passionate environmentalist Jugal Tiwari and his son Shivam. The wildlife conservation organisation does bird watching trips focusing on the wildlife rich Banni grasslands in the arid region. The family is also involved in various community projects that the traveller can get insights into. These include, one-day nature education camps, installing water filters in village homes, providing tree saplings to village schools and more. Accommodation is in well-kept rooms with 24-hour solar-heated hot water and authentic Gujarati vegetarian meals are provided.
CEDO was formed in 1960 with a view to propagate and preserve native plants and strengthen the native green cover of Kutch and other arid lands of Gujarat. The homestay was started in 2005 to offer serious nature travellers an opportunity to visit and learn from Kutch’s unique ecosystem.
