Bhavnagar
Bhavnagar is a seaside city, located in the state of Gujarat near to the Saurashtra peninsula. Bhavnagar is also famous for its version of the popular Gujarati snack 'Ganthiya' and 'Jalebi.
This museum features some remarkable exhibits of Jain artwork and artefacts up to 500 years old and beautiful ivory carvings in Palitana town. In the basement is a surprising circular temple with mirror walls and centuries-old images of four tirthankars (Jain teachers). It’s 500m down the street from the foot of the Shatrunjaya steps.
The museum was built to house collections Jain artifacts, excavated idols from earlier temples and ancient manuscripts written on palm leaves.
Best time to visit: November to February is the best period to visit the temple town.
